A low wattage light should be used to attract baby chicks to the heating element, feed & water. Red lights were used for years and are still preferred by some breeders. Blue lights have been the most popular in recent years. Low intensity white light has been shown to increase food conversion and does not add to risk of pecking.

It is important to have your incubator in good working condition before the hatching season begins. Test your thermometers, then test your equipment. Consider changing out your wafer for a fresh one if yours is getting old. It is a small investment to avert hatching disasters. It is always good to have a spare wafer on hand throughout the hatching season in case of emergencies.

This incubator thermometer is the most accurate available. It has a 3.5" stem which can be inserted through a 5/32" hole to permit reading of temperature form outside of the incubator. The 2" dial permits easy accurate reading. It is graduated in one degree points from 30 to 125 degrees.Can also be used as a hygrometer to measure wet bulb readings. Includes wick and instructions to convert wet bulb readings to relative humidity.
 

Accurate Temperature control in an incubator is a must, only possible with a good thermometer. If in doubt, check your thermometer with a fever thermometer.
